Weight tickets are official documents that show the weight of your household goods (HHG) before and after you move. Weight tickets are necessary for reimbursement of your PPM/DITY move. When you move with PODS, we’ll obtain PPM/DITY weight tickets for you upon request. Don’t worry about the driving, so you don’t have to worry about weigh stations and additional paperwork.
If you've chosen a Personal Procured Move (PPM) for your military move, there are a few things you need to do to get reimbursed. The government will give you the forms, but you need to make sure you keep the following from PODS: your receipts and empty and full weight tickets. PODS can obtain PPM/DITY weight tickets for you upon request.
A PPM gives you control and flexibility during your move and could potentially help you save extra money. You can choose how and when you want to move, and you can hire help for parts of the process or do it all yourself.
A Permanent Change of Station (PCS) means the military is officially moving your household to a new duty station in the U.S or abroad. You can manage the move in different ways, such as full-service movers or a containerized moving provider, such as PODS. PCS orders are not a one-size-fits-all document. Your PCS orders tell the service member when, where, and how to show up at the new location. PCS orders also describe the monetary allowances you’re eligible for to pay for the move.
Each PCS move is different, and the extent is covered in your orders. The military will pay for travel, moving, shipping, storage, and transportation expenses for the service member and their immediate family members. If you opt for a PPM (personally procured move) instead, the military will grant you a stipend that you can use for your expenses.
A Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. There are several factors to consider, like the distance of the move, how much you’re moving, and how you plan to travel.
The government considers an official PCS a move that’s 50 miles or more, and the orders include moving expenses. Some military members might receive a Permanent Change of Assignment (PCA). A PCA is different because it typically requires an unpaid, local move under a 50-mile radius. PCAs are common in dense military locations.
Even seasoned military movers sometimes need a PCS acronym cheat sheet. If you’re prepping for a move, you’ll probably run into these terms in your official documents.
