The maximum weight limit for our containers are: 8’ Container = 5,200 lbs 12’ Container = 4,700 lbs 16’ Container = 4,200 lbs Customers do not have to calculate their content's weight, so the weight limits should be used as a guideline when packing the container. If you're concerned that you may be approaching the maximum weight, pick out your heaviest items and look for comparable items online. Most retail websites will list the weight of their items. The total weight of your heaviest items shouldn't exceed 75% of the total allowed weight. Heavy items to consider are appliances, sofas, large entertainment centers, bookcases, bedroom chests, safes, exercise equipment, pianos and pool tables.
Although the container's interior may depend on the model and size you receive, our containers are open spaces without obstructions or shelving. There are wooden beams every 3-4 feet and in some models, tie down hooks are installed on the wood beams. Pictures of a partially packed container can be found on our Loading page.
There are no shelves in the PODS containers.

PODS offers two types of protection options - Container Only Option (COO), and Contents Protection Option (CPO). Below, you will find basic information on both options including price ranges. 1. Container Only Option (COO): Pursuant to the terms of the PODS’ rental agreement, you are responsible for any damage to the container while the container is in your care and possession. This option gives you the opportunity to protect yourself against financial loss in the event the PODS container itself suffers any damage. PODS charges one low price per month for this coverage. Damage to the container however will not be covered if the damage was caused by your willful or intentional acts or items stored in the container prohibited by the PODS’ rental agreement. 2. Contents Protection Option (CPO): Events may occur that may cause damage to your items stored in our PODS container and also damage to the container itself. Your items may have little or no coverage under homeowners or renters insurance policies. Additionally, PODS is not responsible for damage to your stored property and our rental agreement requires you to maintain coverage for your personal property stored in our container, so it is important to find coverage for your possessions. You are also responsible for any damage to the container under our rental agreement. As a solution, we offer CPO. Your contents and the container will be covered from a variety of risks under this option. Certain exclusions and limitations apply. Please either call a PODS sales agent for full coverage details or you may consult the PODS’ CPO brochure for more information. PODS’ Contents Protection Option (CPO) gives you the choice of how much coverage you would prefer based on the declared value of the contents you intend to store in a PODS container. The prices range from $34.95/month for a declared value of $5,000, up to $439.95/month (US) for the maximum declared value of $300,000. Please call a PODS’ sales agent for full pricing details.
Damage resulting from improper packing, normal shifting or intentional acts by the customer to the contents or the container is not protected. PODS will also not assume liability for burglary and/or theft of personal property for on-site containers. Additional details are outlined in the Contents Protection Option Addendum.
The Container Only Options will cover losses or damages to the container due to lightning, windstorm, hail, fire, smoke explosion, vandalism, riot, malicious mischief, falling objects, or auto accidents that may require a police report. For further information please refer to the Container Protection Options page.
To report damages, customers can call the toll free number 1-866-351-3724.
PODS will not be responsible for valuable items that are listed in the rental agreement and should not be put into the container. A few such items are: jewelry, furs, firearms, computer programs, antiques, collectibles, credit cards and certain other invaluable and irreplaceable items. A detailed list of exclusions is outlined in the Content Protection Option Addendum.
PODS containers are permitted at most locations. If PODS is aware of regulations in your area, you will be informed at the time you place your order.

Delivery time depends on a variety of factors, which include availability of delivery vehicles and the distance to the delivery location. PODS scheduling technology provides the flexibility to meet your moving needs. You can get a fast, free and competitive price quote by completing the online quote form on the right side of the page. PODZILLA needs some extra maneuvering space, so you’ll need to clear a path that’s a little longer than two parking spots (12 ft. wide, 15 ft. high, and 40 ft. long) before delivery. If your driveway isn’t quite this long, the maneuvering area can include the street, too. Please ensure there are no low-hanging wires, branches, or other obstructions, like sprinkler heads, in the path. If there’s anything in the way, call Customer Care, before your delivery date, at (855) 706-4758. If we’re delivering to a parking lot, we’ll need two or three consecutive spaces to deliver or pick it up. A container is about the size of a standard parking spot, so it can either go in between two spaces or in the center of three spaces. Please contact your property manager before your delivery date. Make sure you’re prepared for your container delivery or pick-up. Check out our container delivery checklist here.
No, you don't have to be present for your Container delivery. The driver will use your delivery instructions to place your container and will also contact you prior to arriving. We recommend being available if there are obstructions or if you foresee the delivery being difficult. Make sure you’re prepared for your container delivery or pick-up. Check out our container delivery checklist here.
Saturday is a popular day for moving and our PODS Drivers are available to help meet your needs; Containers are delivered and picked up on Saturdays but most Storage Centers are closed on Sundays. Container rentals are not prorated and include a monthly rental, so there's plenty of time to pack and load at your pace. Because scheduling is based on availability, we recommend that your container delivery and pick-up is scheduled as far in advance as possible.
Our deliveries usually begin at 7:00 am local time and will continue until all deliveries scheduled for that day are completed. You do not have to be present in order for us to deliver the container for you. You may also check your Service Window once you log into your account.
In order to add to your placement instructions, please chat with an Associate or contact our Service Center. If a Chat Associate is available, the chat icon is visible once you've logged into your account.

Our Sales Associates can provide an estimated quote but the complete address details are needed to finalize your order. The destination ZIP code should be provided as soon as possible, so we can ensure the area is within our network. Changes to the destination zip code may also impact the price of your previous quote.
Please do not use abbreviations when entering your street address. This should help minimize any error message about street address formatting that you may receive. Also as a reminder, please make sure to put the city, state and zip code in the designated boxes.

Unless there is a specific regulation that defines the amount of time a container may be placed at your location, you may keep it for as long as you need. The great thing about our service is that you are billed on a monthly basis, so you can keep the container longer if your plans change and we will bill you appropriately for any additional month(s) that you may need.
Our containers fit best on a flat, paved surface, but if that’s not an option, call our Customer Care Team before your delivery date at (855) 706-4758 to discuss placement on a non-paved surface. Additional fees may apply.
Yes, your container can easily fit into one parking space, but your driver will need some extra room to deliver and pick it up. Contact your property manager and request two or three consecutive parking spots for PODZILLA to use as maneuvering space. If two spaces are available, your container will be placed in the middle of the two spots. If three spaces are available, your container will be placed in the center spot.
Yes, if your driveway can fit two vehicles side-by-side or end-to-end, it can likely accommodate two containers. A space 25 ft. wide and 15 ft. tall will allow for side-by-side placement. For end-to-end placement, you will need a space 12 ft. wide, 15 ft. tall, and 33 ft. long.

PODS uses a hydraulic lift system, PODZILLA, designed to position the container safely on your driveway. For new driveways check with your builder or developer before scheduling placement. We are unable to determine the integrity of any paved surface, so you should always check for existing cracks and request placement away from that area.
We are able to successfully place containers in most locations without resulting in damage. Please note however, that if you elect for a non-paved surface placement, there is always the possibility of some yard damage, especially if the ground is wet, or the soil is loose. In all cases, we take the utmost care to deliver your container in a fashion that minimizes the possibility of any damage.
If you’re wondering if your driveway’s incline is too steep for container delivery, here’s a quick way to find out: When your car is parked on the incline with the front facing uphill, is a car door able to stay open? If not, give us a call at 855) 706-4758 to talk about other possible locations.
When you're ready to move your filled container to the local Storage Center, contact our Service team and they will schedule for Container to be returned to the Storage Center. Any of the following surfaces are considered non-paved: Gravel, dirt, grass, sand, stones, shells. Additional fees may apply for container placements on non-paved surfaces.
Surfaces such as asphalt or concrete are considered paved surfaces. They are smooth and durable, making them ideal for walking and driving.
To place your container, we’ll need a maneuvering path at least 14 ft. wide that’s free from snow and ice. All snow and ice should be cleared before your delivery or pick-up. That’s why, before your driver arrives, you need to clear a path that’s 14 ft. wide, 15 ft. high, and 40 ft. long. That’s a little longer than two parking spaces. PODS will inform you of any regulation that we are aware of during the booking process. Many customers call their local community for information about any restrictions that might exist just to be on the safe side. Since PODS containers are very commonly used throughout the country, the majority of our customers don't have to worry about community imposed limitations.
The night before your pick-up, you will receive an automated phone call and email with the estimated 3-hour service window. You may also check your estimated service window on our website, www.PODS.com, or by calling 800-776-7637. The container may be picked up anytime after 7AM local time. Moving and Storage calculator tools
Not sure how much storage space or how many containers you need? Check out these resources.
The right amount of container space can vary depending on how much stuff you have and the size of certain items. Our calculator gives you a more accurate idea of which size or combination of sizes you’ll need. Be sure to include the contents of all rooms and spaces. Don't forget the garage, attic, basement, and closets. And remember, you can stack your belongings inside your unit.
Please note this calculator isn’t optimized for mobile and is best used on a desktop computer.[1]
Container Size Chart
Nobody wants to pay for space they don’t use. But what’s even worse is discovering that you need more space after you’ve loaded most of your stuff. This handy table uses the square footage of your home, and how heavily or lightly furnished it is, to approximate the size or combinations of sizes that’s best for your needs.
Remember that this matrix is an estimate only. Larger items and how efficiently the container is loaded will significantly impact the required size and quantity of containers. When considering square footage, remember to include any area that has items you'll be loading, such as your patio, basement, garage, and attic. Please note that the 12-foot unit is for in-town moving only. For longer distance moves, select the 16- or 8-foot sizes*.
*Dimensions are based on exterior measurements. Container sizes may vary slightly.
